Under 13 Girls

Baxter v Bundoora 1st (Bundoora) V 2nd Baxter

28th June

Final Score 1 - 1

If our girls did not sleep well on Sunday night they never will, what a game and what a performance.

Bundoora had won every game this year and until our game they had scored 35 goals & have had 1 against them.

The mighty Baxter under 13 Girls gave them a scare; they would have driven home thinking how did we get away with that.

Every one of the girls gave 100% and never gave up, the game itself was fantastic to watch, end to end with great moves and team work from both sides.

Alexis scored for Baxter it was a goal that came from great endeavour never giving up and at the best time right on half time.

The second half was the same as the first, both teams giving their all, but with 10seconds to go Bundoora scored from a corner.

Lets be fair to Bundoora they are a great team and they played some great soccer, which makes our effort all the better.

Well done girls, it was a pleasure to coach you.

Sunday was again a lovely day for a soccer game, well apart from all the dog poo over the pitch which some girls did not handle to well.

The game started with Baxter chasing the ball, not a bad thing but when it is 3 or 4 girls going for the same ball it is a total waste of energy, we soon sorted this out and the girls moved into space and passed the ball around, this created a lot of chances.

At half time the score was 3 – 0 in our favour and it should have been more, we tried to run the ball in to the goal instead of having a shot when the opportunity was on.

The game was so one sided, from memory Caulfield only went in to our area once, and then our goalie cleaned up for us.

The second half was much like the first half, all one way traffic but Katie was on fire, she ended up with four goals and she knows she could have doubled this, this is why we had Mark Rattue the under 16 girls coach give special training to our girls on Wednesday, thanks Mark appreciated.

Other goals came from Sam & Alex.

All the girls had a great game especially Caitlyn who is in her first year and laid on the best goal of the day from a pass from Bonnie.

This week we play Bundoora who are top of the table with 7 wins from 7 games I hope my next report states 7 wins from 8 games & one defeat.

WHAT A GAME, this was our local derby and the winner gets the bragging rights.

We had played a friendly game in pre season when Mornington had beaten us 9-3 after we were 2 – 0 up, so we had a bit to prove also Mornington had taken over our second spot on the table from our last games loss.

The first half was mostly Baxter and even though we scored 3 goals to nil it could have been more, the girls were brilliant before the game I asked them to run hard and if they loose the ball to get it back, and boy did they do it.

At half time I told the girls if they thought the second half would be easy due to the score line they would be mistaken, well we payed the price for not being ready, within five minutes the score was 3-2, we made a few changes and normal service was restored, soon it was 4-2 then 4-3 and it ended up 5-3 in our favour, even though this seems a tight score line we could have come away with 4 or 5 more goals.

To be fair to Mornington they were missing some of there better players, but then we only had 1 sub & a young team.

Normally I would point out some of the better players, but this week was really a team effort with every one putting in.

We are now back in second spot on the table 5 point away from Bundoora, whole we still have to play twice.

Final Score Mornington 3 Baxter 5

31st May            Baxter v Knox    Knox won 3 - 1

Well our run of being un-defeated came to an end, where we were out smarted by Knox, they came with a very defensive game plan which we could not break down, good luck to them, their coach out smarted me, I have learned some lessons from it.

The girls to their credit kept trying, and in the second half I thought we had equalised again by Chelcie Mackey but this time it was disallowed for hand ball.

It was soon after this that they grabbed their 3rd goal and it was all over.

Bonnie Wild scored our goal which did level the game at 1 – 1, overall our girls seemed a bit tired and kept running into a brick wall of their defence, having so many back for them did not help.

So we move on to our local derby against Mornington.

24th May            Meadow Park v Baxter

When we left the Peninsula there was not a hint of wind, just a calm and beautiful day.

By the time we reached Meadow Park it all changed, there was a wild wind and whilst not like the other week it was not far off, this did not help the game also not having a referee & no subs.

We played against the wind in the first half which was very demanding because the pitch was rock hard and when the ball was kicked high & forward our defenders were under immense pressure, luckily this did not happen to often and we were in control for most of the first half, Alexis Kouvelis should have scored in the first half with the goal seemingly wide open, (it is always easier to score from the side line) but it just went past the right hand post, but Alexis made up for it soon after from a corner.

1 -0 at half time.

The second half was at a much faster rate for us having the wind behind us even if it had died away a bit, we kept them pinned in their half for most of the second half and Katie John scored our second goal.

Full Time           2 – 0 to Baxter

Whilst this game was not as good as previous weeks, the pleasing thing was watching some of our younger players shine; they did what was asked off them and attacked the ball, one of them even scoring a goal that was rightly disallowed for offside.

So special thanks goes to Laura Beattie, Chelcie Mackey, Caitlyn Robinson, also to Niki Newman and Anna Rudakova who both were playing full backs and kept the pressure on Meadow Park by always looking to attack.

Well done girls.

PS a special thank you to my oldest daughter Molly Newman for helping getting the girls warmed up prior to the game.

Baxter v Diamond Valley 17th May

Another game and another win for the Under 13 Eagles, we are on a roll, undefeated so far and enjoying themselves.

This was a tight game, Diamond Valley I have to say were the better team in the first with the wind behind them, but the Eagles defence was solid and they could not get pass.

Then with not long to go Bonnie Wild decided to go for a run from the half way line, taking it all the way into the box before placing a great goal inside the post.

1 – 0 Half Time.

I don’t know if it was the goal, the wind, or if we were just to strong for Diamond Valley but the second half was a complete reversal of the first half, Baxter controlling all of the game, Katie John hit the post and the ball ran back along the line before being cleared.

Samantha was having a strong game again and helping the midfield and defence when required, she never stoped running which was great for a forward.

Bonnie then got her second and we were in control, Diamond Valley scored a late goal just before the end in which Zjana Raymond almost saved.

Unlike our last game where some players stood out, this game really was a team effort.

Well done girls and bring on Meadow Park.

3rd May Baxter v Glen Waverley

After an easy win the previous week against Sydenham 9 – 0, we know we would have a much harder game against Glen Waverley, although they had lost the previous week it was only 1 – 0 against Bundoora.

As we all know the weather was warm unlike the previous week where flying a kite would have been more suitable, Glen Waverley had a very tall team compared to ours, but this did not worry the under 13 Eagles.

The first half was end to end with I must say Baxter having the better opportunities and also having more of the ball, the Baxter girls defence played exceptional and on the rare occasion that Glen Waverley did get through our goal keeper Zjana Raymond cleaned up for us with some great saves.

Our best chance came from Samantha Galik from a long range free kick which their keeper only just kept out, the midfield was covering a lot of ground and this was to be a problem in the second half as we started loosing energy, the first half ended goal less.

The second half started much the same as the first end to end and the tension was getting high, in the second half we were playing up hill, this and all of the energy we had used in the first half, our team started to slow down, and the older team of Glen Waverley started to take control, roughly 10 mins before the end Glen Waverley took the lead with a great goal that our keeper had no chance, with five minutes to go and still down by a goal we bought back on Alexi Kouvelis who had come off for an overdue break as she had not stoped running all day, moved Niki Newman up front from the defence and pushed our backline which had been lead so well by Finley Angus all day to over the half way line, and for what seemed 10 minutes not 5 we kept Glen Waverley pinned down in their penalty area without scoring the goal we required and deserved, and then with only 2 seconds left a cross came in from the right and Niki Newman scored a goal that looped over the keeper.

All of our girls played so well and never gave up, but a special thanks from me goes to Bonnie Wild, Caitlyn Robinson, Samantha Galik our older girls who kept fighting and showed the less experienced girls what is required.

Well done girls
